Implementation Sessions Biochemical Reactors for Mining-Influenced Water Groundwater Statistics and Monitoring Compliance

FOCUS ON IMPLEMENTATION NURTURE SUCCESS ITRC Project Life Cycle Groundwater Statistics Bioreactors

Implementation  Getting ITRC guidance into the hands of target users to improve decision making  Documenting the results of their use to showcase ITRC success

What is ITRC Success?  ITRC’s Expected Results

2 Key Success Types for ITRC are:  Use of the document for site activities/decision making  Incorporating/referencing ITRC document in state (or other agency) guidance

Success Snippets Minnesota: Concepts from LNAPL Training used to support risk management decision; resulted in saving approximately $500,000 in overall cleanup dollars. Louisiana: Decreasing approval time. At Army FUDS, ITRC ISM guidance used to develop site work plan. Time was saved as document provided good information to answer reviewers’ questions/comments. California: Estimated resource savings of at least a 50% time savings compared to developing their guidance without the ITRC ISM information. “If we [CA] had to develop a separate ISM guidance document or include an ISM approach, it would have taken at least 50% more time to develop the NOA guidance.” Colorado: Estimate a 90% savings in resources because the ITRC ISM document was available with credible information to support the inclusion of ISM information into Colorado’s draft Owner/Operator Guidance.

Implementation Session Goals  Preview our new ITRC guidance documents, how, when and why they should be used [led by Team Leader(s)]  Demonstrate use of documents [led by Team Leader(s)]  Gather your ideas about who could benefit from using these documents (specific people, sites, states) [small group discussions]
