How God Speaks Today Testing the Claims of Latter-Day Revelations
2
How God Speaks Today God has always spoken through his creation (Psa. 19:1ff; Rom. 1:19-20) In times past, God has spoken directly to mankind (Heb. 1:1-2) The question is: How does God speak to mankind today?
3
How God Speaks Today Sincere individuals claim “special” revelations from God (Wayne Chenault) Sincere religious groups claim God speaks to them through prophets (Mormons, Seventh- day Adventists, J.W.s, UPC, cults, etc.) Sincere preachers (including some among “Churches of Christ”) tell about what “the Lord has laid on my heart…”
4
How God Speaks Today The question is: How does God speak to mankind today? God speaks today through the Bible only – Jn. 14:26; 16:13 – “all things” and “all truth” – 1 Cor. 13:10 – “perfect is come” (see Jas. 1:25) – Eph. 4:5 – “one faith” – Col. 1:28 – “every man … all wisdom” – 2 Tim. 3:16-17 – “complete” – 2 Pet. 1:3 – “all things” – Jude 3 – “once” (for all time, ASV, NKJV)

The Finality of Revelation ( The New Testament ) God Deut. 18:18 Christ Acts 3:22 “all that I command” ( through the H.S., Jn. 16:14-15 ) Apostles John 14:26 John 16:13 “all the truth” “once for all delivered” Scripture Jude 3

The New Testament Is… Divine, not human in origin (Gal. 1:11-12) Pure, not perverted in quality (2 Cor. 11:3) Complete, not partial in provision (2 Tim. 3:17) Necessary, not optional in requirement (2 Thess. 1:8)

If Latter-day Revelations, Then… God is a respecter of persons (Acts 10:34-35; Rom. 2:11) God is contrary to His word (Heb. 1:1-2) God is the author of confusion (1 Cor. 14:33) God’s word is not complete and final (Gal. 1:6-9; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; Jude 3) God has no single standard of right and wrong (Jn. 8:32; 17:17) God adds and takes away from His word (Deut. 4:2; 12:2; Prov. 30:6; Rev. 22:18-19)

How God Speaks Today Latter-day “prophets” do not confirm what they say (Mk. 16:20; Heb. 2:4) Latter-day “prophets” go back to the Bible to prove their latter-day revelation!?! We must test all “latter-day revelations” with the Bible and avoid them (1 Thess. 5:21; 1 Jn. 4:1) Don’t believe a lie (2 Thess. 2:9-10) God does not speak today to mankind apart from the Bible!
