In English, there are three types of clause, namely: Noun Clause Clause Adjective Adverb Clause three types of clauses

A noun or NOUN CLAUSE is a clause that functions as a noun or as an object in the sentence. In this case, this clause follows the verb like know, believe, understand, say, suggest. This clause usually begins with THAT Example: I know THAT he is a student of IAIN Salatiga. (I know it.) We believe THAT Allah is the Great. (We believe it) 1. NOUN CLAUSE

An Adjective Clause is a clause that functions as an adjective in the sentence. Its function is to describe a noun. An adjective clause is usually characterized by WHO, THAT, or WHICH. Example : This is the man who helped me yesterday. (This is the man. The man helped me yesterday) I live in a house that I bought last year. (I live in a house. I bought the house last year) 2 ADJECTIVE CLAUSE

The magazine is very interesting. You lent me the magazine. (The magazine that you lent me is very interesting). 1. This is the building. The building belongs to the government. 2. The fish was not good. I ate the fish yesterday 3. The pencil is mine. It is lying on the desk. 4. That is the book. The book is known by almost all children. 5. 'Fakultas Tarbiyah' has 4 departments. It is the oldest faculty of IAIN Salatiga. Exercise 2

6. The book was about Islamic history. I was reading the book yesterday. 7. The eggs are bad. I bought the eggs yesterday. 8. The old man has just died. The man lived next door to us. 9. UIN Jakarta is far from the city. It is on Jalan Ciputat Raya. 10. The man has moved to another city. He owns the big house on the corner.

An adverb clause or adverb clause is a clause that functions as an adverb in the sentence. There are several types of adverb clause, namely: 1. Adverb Clause of Time or the time information. 2. Adverb Clause of place or description of the place. 3. Adverb Clause of Reason or explanation of reasons. 4. Adverb Clause Of Contrast or description of comparison. 5. Adverb Clause of Purpose or information purposes 3. ADVERB CLAUSE

1. Adverb Clause of Time or the time information. This clause is usually preceded by the conjunctions before, after, until, when, and others. These clauses are commonly found in the sentence of Future Tense, Past Continuous Tense, and the Past Perfect tense. Example : He was having dinner WHEN I came I will give you some money AFTER you finish the work 1. Adverb Clause of Time

Adverb Clause of Place or description of the place is is usually preceded by conjunctions WHERE, WHEREVER, and others. Example : You can always find Indonesian wherever you go. Look where you leap. 2. Adverb Clause of Place

3. Adverb Clause of Reason or explanation of reason. This clause is usually preceded by conjunctions Because, since, and others. Example : He did not come to the University Because he was sick. Since STAIN can not provide enough accommodation, most students live outside the campus. 3. Adverb Clause of Reason

Adverb Clause of Contrast or description of comparison. This clause of the conjunction Although, though, and others. Example : He is not happy Although he is rich. He is happy although he is poor. Though he is a poor man, he is very generous 4. Adverb Clause of Contrast

5. Adverb Clause of Purpose or information purposes This is recognizable from the conjunction in order, that, so that, and others. Example : We study at IAIN in order that we can deepen our knowledge of Islam.
