 Confederation: South States, Pro-Slavery  Union: North States, Against Slavery  Presidential Election: appointing a new president of the United States  Secede: to break away from, to separate  Civil War: a war within one country, between states  Slavery: mostly African American person or persons sold as property and bound to an owner to complete their demands and hard work.

 The American Civil War was fought in the United States of America between the northern states and the southern states  The northern states were called the “Union”.  The southern states were called the Confederate States of America or the "Confederacy"  Fought between 1861 and 1865.

 The north wanted to ban slavery in the United States and the south was very much for keeping slavery in their states.  The south wanted to be independent from the north and be free to do what they want.  When President Lincoln won election in 1890, south states seceded from the Union, or the rest of the states because President Lincoln was against slavery.  This caused the United States to be dissolved and enter the state of Civil War.

 Slaves from different countries were brought to America to serve a multitude of cruel demands of owners, some were bought for life.  The slave trade was used between white men in Europe and America who owned, worked, abused, tormented, and sold African American slaves.  In 1880 the Northern States banned slavery in their states and freed northern slaves, but the south did not, and continued a slave trade amongst themselves.  An underground railroad, was a system managed by Harriet Tubman who took runaway slaves from the south, underground to the northern states for safety.  Slavery was ended by the Emancipation Proclamation

 Major battles of the American Civil War included First Bull Run, Second Bull Run, Battle of Shiloh, The Seven Days, Antietam, Vicksburg, Gettysburg, and the Siege of Petersburg.  900,000 fought for the Confederacy.  2.1 million men fought for the Union  Each battle was strategically planned out focusing on terrain and weather.  Fatalities on both sides were very numerous.

 The Confederacy’s army slowly faltered and dissipated and could no longer fight against the U.S. Government.  The north was happy with the outcome and their wishes of freedom for all came true.  The south had lost a majority of its laborers from slaves and their crops amongst other things began to suffer.
