4 Energy What types of energy are there?
Electrical energy - a current in a circuit etc… Light energy - from the sun; a light bulb etc… Sound energy - from a loudspeaker; a drum etc… Kinetic (movement) energy - anything which moves! Thermal (heat) energy - transferred from hot objects to colder ones Gravitational potential energy - possessed by anything with the ability to fall Elastic potential energy - stretched springs; elastic and rubber bands etc… Chemical energy - possessed by food; fuels; batteries etc…

5 Created & Destroyed Energy is the ability to ‘do some work’ - everything that happens needs energy However, energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred from place to place in a variety of ways

12 Waste When energy is transferred from one type to another there is often ‘wasted’ energy This ‘wasted’ energy is in a form which you do not want E.g. what is the wasted energy in a circuit which lights a bulb? In a circuit chemical energy (within the battery) is transferred to electrical energy which runs through the circuit to light energy in the bulb However, heat from the current in the wires / when the bulb is on is our ‘wasted’ energy
