1519- Ferdinand Magellan- Portuguese navigator who went around the southern tip of South America; he was then killed in the Philippine Islands
ship and 18 people of Magellan’s original crew made it to Spain. These sailors were the first to circumnavigate, or go all the way around, the globe; this was a 40,000 mile journey
