Today we will cover: What is Medicare? Where/How do I sign up? Comparing Plans Picking Plans Getting Help WARNINGS and FRAUD

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with End- Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD). For this presentation we will focus on Medicare for the person 65 years old and up. We will discuss new enrollees, changing plans and picking a plan.

Medicare.gov contains information for people who are: Just getting started with Medicare Eligibility information Links to sign up for Medicare Plans available through Medicare (coverage choices) MedAdvantage Plan Comparisons Supplemental Plan Comparisons The best place to begin is at Medicare.gov. This is the official Medicare website.

Use this link to go to the application for Medicare on the Social Security Web Site.

If you are collecting Social Security you will automatically be enrolled in the basic Medicare Plans. If you have delayed Social Security beyond age 65 you will have to enroll in Medicare. Use this link to apply for enrollment

Medicare is Comprised of Different Components: Medicare Part A : (Original Medicare) Hospital Insurance Automatic Enrollment if on Social Security If not on Social Security you must enroll yourself Pick your own hospital as long as they accept Medicare Medicare Part B (Original Medicare) Medical Insurance Automatic Enrollment if on Social Security If not on Social Security you must enroll yourself You may refuse to enroll in Part B Pick your own Doctors as long as they accept Medicare Has a premium payment which varies by income Medicare Part C (MedAdvantage Plans) Plans approved by Medicare and run by Private Companies Medicare pays a certain amount of each members care; You must still pay Part B Premium May limit you to network doctors or hospitals Includes Part A and Part B services, may include drug coverage, May include vision and/or dental coverage, Benefits and cost-sharing may be different from Original Medicare Includes a variety of plan types: Ex. HMO, HMO Point of Service,. Preferred Provider Organization, etc.

Medicare is Comprised of Different Components: (continued) Medicare Part D (Drug Coverage) Prescription Drug Plans approved by Medicare Run by Private Companies Available to everyone with Medicare coverage Must be enrolled in a plan to get coverage (MedAdvantage Plans generally include Drug Coverage as part of the plan) Costs vary by plan Usually a monthly premium and a yearly deductible with copayments or coinsurance; higher premiums if you wait to enroll Very little spending after $4559 spent out of pocket Supplemental Medicare Plans (MediGap) MediGap Policies are private health insurance policies that supplement Original Medicare for the items Original Medicare does not cover. Plans are identified by letter. A letter plan offers the same basic benefits from company to company, only cost and customer service varies between the companies. Open Enrollment is October 15 – December 7 th You may switch types of plans and companies at this time

Complete Step Two. If you don’t know what drugs you take you can skip this part for now. Your Drug list helps to narrow down the best plans for you.

1) Add the name of one of your drugs here. 2) Click on Find My Drug Button 3) If options appear down here, select the one that matches the drug you take.

Once you have added a drug this menu will pop up and you can select the dosage amount, the quantity you need, the frequency you need it and the type of pharmacy you get it from. Then click on the Add drug and dosage button.

Your drug now shows up in the drug list with the appropriate information. You also have a Drug List ID and Password so you can retrieve a saved list in the future. Continue to add your drugs in this manner. You are allowed to enter up to 25 drugs.

Once your drugs have been added click on the button My Drug List Complete

Select the pharmacy you use from the grid below and click on the Continue to Plan Results Button

This brings you to a Summary of what you have entered. Select the plans you want to see/compare. You can also add filters from the menu at the left. Update if you add filters and click on the Continue to Plan Results button.

Plans for you to check out will be in the box.

Select the plans you want to compare and click the compare plans button

You can compare the plans you chose and you may go back a screen and compare other plans. Contact information makes it easy to contact an individual provider and get further info. From them. You may use these tabs to compare different attributes.

This chart shows basic information about the different “letter plan” benefits for MediGap policies. The percentages show that percentage of the benefit covered. You can use the plan comparison tool to get details for various plans in your area.

Know that YOU can help prevent Fraud Check/Review Your Bills; Use Your Medicare Summary Notice Often errors are a mistake, REPORT errors to the provider and check to be sure a change is made. Secure Your Medicare Card and Number You can not lend our your number for another to use. Be sure your card I secure so it is not stolen and used by another. Track you information on My Medicare.gov You can review your claims online at this site Fraud can be reported to 1-800-Medicare Call Tom Everett for help with this if needed
