Garden Work Days Garden Work Day – October 16, 2015 On Friday October 16 more than 20 students and members of the Garinger Education Foundation joined forces on four projects to beautify the area around the Garinger cafeteria. Butterfly Gardens Shade Gardens Raised Beds Planting Trees The gardens are educational too! They include native plants and nectar plants for butterflies. Efforts like this are intended to make students at Garinger feel pride in the place they go to school.

Shade Gardens Garden Work Day – October 16, 2015 Volunteers planted shade gardens at the cafeteria. They transplanted azaleas and added variegated liriope, Lenten rose, and a Beautyberry. Before After

Raised Beds Garden Work Day – October 16, 2015 Before After Volunteers planted seven raised beds at the front of the cafeteria. They have abeliea, juncus, arborvitae, daffodils, liriope, pansies, succulents, and herbs. Two of the raised beds

Planting Trees Garden Work Day – October 16, 2015 Before After Volunteers planted two service berry trees and two redbud trees between the Cafeteria and the Media Center. These are native plants with seasonal interest and provide food for birds

Thanks to everyone Garden Work Day – October 16, 2015 Thanks to Susan Hooper for her hard work organizing all our Garden Work Days. … but she doesn’t mind doing the some of the heavy lifting too. And thanks to all our GEF volunteers, students, and friends of Garinger Plow and Hearth donated the obelisks for the Butterfly Gardens Charlotte Council of Garden Clubs donated the amendments and plant material. Keep America Beautiful donated amendments, mulch, plant material and labor for the other spaces
