Textbook Adoption Currently in negotiations The plan for right now is: -new BEEP lessons for required social studies classes: MS World History, Civics, US History HS World, US History, Gov & Econ (Probably AP US and AP World) -Summer Training (1 day) on Textbook Implementation

Fall Professional Development Many trainings canceled Some trainings will be offered again after FCAT but may be limited due to planning for Summer Training BCCSS January 20 Training

Civics Update No new information at this time. The powerpoint from Randy Felton, State Test Administrator, has been posted on CAB Conference and on the Wiki Free Civics Resources can be found at: www.icivics.org www.floridacivics.org

Civics Update www.floridacivics.org This site provides a longer training module then the current one on the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for Civics. Approximately 35 inservice points will be awarded for this online class. It has not yet been set up in ESS, but you can begin the class.

Multicultural Mandate Shellie Gory, Elementary Social Studies Curriculum Specialist and Louise Ball are now the Contacts for Multicultural A Principal’s Memo will be sent asking for the Multicultural Contact at your school. Additional Information will go through Department Chairs. We appreciate your assistance with this!!!

Competitions Knowledge Bowl: Wednesday, May 2, 2012 Tentative-Dillard High School History Fair: Friday, March 2, 2012 Even if your school does not participate in the District History Fair, schools can still utilize the History Fair materials and implement a research project based on the History Fair.

“Secondary Social Studies Look Fors” Draft of “Look Fors” was posted on the Social Studies CAB Conference. This list will be shared with High School Principals. Six Literacy Look Fors – Emailed to all Dept. Chairs. Please review with your department. Send any suggestions or comments to Louise Ball by Tuesday 11/8/11.

Civics/Economics Module Located in the Student Portal Currently trying to get it into the teacher portal. This self-directed learning module is a resource students can use. It supports the Economics standards in grade 7. Please take a moment to go through the module.
