Good Morning! Please have out... Your jumping jack worksheet Your jumping jack worksheet Notes from yesterday Notes from yesterday A piece of paper A piece of paper A pencil A pencil Place everything else on the floor Place everything else on the floor

Rubric reminders Only work in pencil Only work in pencil Do not skip any problem or definition Do not skip any problem or definition Write in complete sentences Write in complete sentences
3
Let’s begin with some vocabulary! Variable— Variable— A quantity that can change. Letters often represent variables in math.
4
Vocabulary continued Independent variable— Independent variable— One of two variables in a relationship. Its value does not depend on another event or variable.
5
Vocabulary continued Dependent variable— Dependent variable— One of the two variables in a relationship. Its value depends on the independent variable.
6
Try to identify the independent and dependent variable in the following example: The height of a plant versus the time it has been growing. The height of a plant versus the time it has been growing. Time is the independent variable. Its value changes at the same rate. It does NOT depend on plant height. Time is the independent variable. Its value changes at the same rate. It does NOT depend on plant height. Plant height is the dependent variable. The plant’s height changes as time passes. Plant height is the dependent variable. The plant’s height changes as time passes.
7
Back to vocab Coordinate graph— Coordinate graph— A graphical representation that shows the relationship between an independent and dependent variable.
8
More vocab X-axis— X-axis— The horizontal axis on a coordinate graph. The INDEPENDENT variable is always shown on the x-axis.
9
More vocab Y-axis— Y-axis— The vertical axis on a coordinate graph. The DEPENDENT variable is always shown on the y-axis.
10
An example coordinate plane: Y-axis X-axis
11
Scales on a coordinate graph can change: 1234 5 6 0 1 2 3 4 5 6
12
2468 1012 0 1 2 3 4 5 6
13
Reminders about graphing Always title your graph Always title your graph Always label your x-axis and y-axis Always label your x-axis and y-axis Be sure to use a scale that will fit all of your data Be sure to use a scale that will fit all of your data The independent variable is on the x-axis The independent variable is on the x-axis The dependent variable is on the y-axis The dependent variable is on the y-axis
14
Let’s review your your jumping jack data and graph….
15
Title your graph 0
