“ Differentiated instruction is unstructured and allows for chaos”
2
“I’ve been doing this for years except several years ago it was called a different name.”
3
“I don’t feel like the students learn anything when they do group projects.”
4
“Differentiated instruction is to much work on the part of the teacher.”
5
What Is Differentiated Instruction Adapting curriculum to better meet the needs of the learner through the use of multiple intelligences which allows students to learn in the manner that best suites their needs.
6
Why Differentiate the Learning Experience Different levels of abilities Different interests Different cognitive needs
7
Ways to Differentiate Content Learning process Student product Individual approaches
8
Content Through pre-assessments you can allow students alternative routes of study based upon knowledge. Same objective yet different questions based on ability level. Same objective but different amounts of work for different students depending on level of need.
9
Learning Process Allowing advanced students the ability to test out and start new objectives. Teaching through multiple intelligences such as nature, music, motion, art, making patterns, sharing with classmates, journaling or blogs. Making the lesson appeal to the senses.
10
Student Product Allowing the student to demonstrate knowledge in different ways through uses of the multiple intelligences. Tier questions to learner’s ability level so the final product is similar yet different.
11
Individual Approaches The goal of D.I. is to reach students needs through the individual approach. How does the student best learn and in what areas does that student need more individualized help. Does the student need remediation or acceleration.
