5 The Chisholm Trail In the late 1800s, cattle had to be transported to where people lived so their meat would be sold fresh The Chisholm Trail went from San Antonio, Texas to Abilene, Kansas Cattle drives averaged 750 miles

6 End of the Cattle Drive Famous cow towns included Ellsworth, Abilene, and Dodge City Kansas eventually banned the cattle drive because Texas longhorn cattle carried diseases Cattle ticks from Texas were passed onto Kansas cows who began to die off
