What is it? Google Apps for Education is a suite of tools that allow you to produce documents, communicate, and collaborate with other people. Adams12 school district has set up accounts for students in High Schools and several middle schools.

What can you do with your Fivestar Account? Send and Receive email. Create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. Create Calendars, Widgets, and Websites. Share your documents, sites, calendars with others. Collaborate on projects with other students and teachers.

Your Responsibilities Send and publish only appropriate messages and pictures. If you send inappropriate text or pictures, you will face consequences from losing account privileges to suspension or even legal action. Follow the safety rules outlined in the Adams12 Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). The Fivestar accounts are provided for you by the district. Therefore you have no expectation of privacy! Teachers can and will be checking out any inappropriate communication.

Your Account The Fivestar accounts should be used for school related communication and projects. They are not to be used for your personal use.

What is Appropriate? Sending messages about anything that is school related. Sending messages to students or teachers to tell them something meaningful or important. Communicating about educational issues with other people using appropriate language about appropriate topics.

What is NOT Appropriate? Sending or publishing messages or images with inappropriate language or content. Sending messages that are mean, harmful, threatening, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, offensive, etc. Using Fivestar accounts when you should be doing something else on the computer. Sending spam or chain letters to others. Giving out personal information or personal information about other students.

Personal Information You should never give out or publish personal information about yourself, your friends, or your family. Personal information includes full name, phone number, email address, picture, etc.

Four R’s of Internet Safety Recognize the techniques used by internet predators. Refuse to give out personal information, keep secrets from adults, or to meet someone you meet online. Respond assertively by logging out or turning off the computer. Report anything that makes you feel uncomfortable to a trusted adult.

Discipline Matrix Action: Using your Fivestar school account for non-school related use: Possible Consequence: Verbal warning or Fivestar account may be disabled temporarily.

Discipline Matrix Action: Sending or publishing inappropriate messages using your Fivestar Account. Possible Consequence: Verbal warning or Fivestar account may be disabled for an extended period of time and possible detention, In School Suspension, or out of school suspension.
