Why This is an Important Sector 11,550 Businesses directly engaged in the Low Carbon Economy £70.8bn (£121.7bn if including supply chain) turnover in 2013 £26.2bn (£44.9 bn if including supply chain) in GVA in 2013. Year on year growth in turnover from 2010-2013 was 7.6%

Our 5 year plan is to Attract £2.38 billion Create 2,000 sustainable jobs 8% carbon reduction Manage a pipeline of renewable energy projects that will create 10% of the energy for the Region Create our own energy company

Some Companies who succeeded: SME IOW Sector – tidal turbine platform Need – establish an innovative tidal platform tethered to the sea bed by a patented series of ropes that enable quick maintenance and can be raised or lowered to hit the sweet spot in the tidal flow. Cost – £1,300,000 Grant - £100,000 Created up to 15 new jobs

Some Companies who succeeded: GPS Sector – Oil spillage control Need – Development and manufacture of a new and highly efficient small oil recovery vessel, together with associated new equipment to fill a gap in the market Cost £600,000 Grant £100,000 Job – creation – could be up to 20

Some Companies who succeeded: Redlux Sector – Ultra precision engineering – non contact measurement Need – Improve quality control in components for wind turbines – mainly bearings which can be expensive to replace. They are measured at point of production to ensure perfect curvature. Cost – £216,000 Grant - £100,000 Match – Investors. Jobs – 5
