4 Advantages of Tidal Energy The density of the energy that is produced from wind power is much greater than the energy that is produced from wind power A tidal barrage (similar to a hydroelectric dam), has a life span of about 100 years

5 Disadvantages of Tidal Energy Places with Tidal Power Stations tend to disturb the growth of fishes, and other wildlife in the area When storms occur in the sea floor it can damage the Tidal Power Stations equipment

6 Tidal Energy in Use Tidal fence- block a channel, forcing water to go through it and turning its turbines to create electricity Tidal Turbine- use tides to turn blades and create electricity Barrage Tidal plant- A dam or barrage is built, with gates and turbines at certain points. Water flows through the turbines, they turn a generator that produces electricity

7 How Tidal Energy Is Used Tidal Turbines- Water current turns the turbines which turns on a generator and that produces energy. Tidal Barrage- The tide rises and water gets trapped in a reservoir. When the tide drops the water flows out and spins a turbine which produces energy. The difference of the tide must exceed 16.4 feet in order for this process to work Tidal Lagoons- Tidal lagoons are similar to tidal barrages but they are smaller and they are self contained structures sectioned of from the sea. Dynamic Tidal Power- This is still in the development stage. The theory is that we can exploit tidal flows and their interaction between potential and kinetic energy.

8 Impact on Public Lands Tidal energy is not very effective because it can only be used in certain places but for the most part it is very environmentally efficient.
