4 Speaking Skills Make your message clear “You cant do anything right!” - this only places blame -no room for positive response -no listening skills at all

5 SPEAKING SKILLS 1. I Message- statement from the speaker’s point of view “Im mad because I wanted to work on this project together.” *** This does not scold or blame *** Tells how the speaker feels 2. Stay Calm 3. Stick to the point 4. Choose the right time and place 5. Be aware of body language and intonation

6 Listening Skills Good listener is an active listener Active listeners hear, think about, and respond to another’s message Becoming a better active listener: 1. Pay careful attention to ALL that the speaker has to say- keep an open mind 2. Use body language that shows you are listening- eyeballs on person 3. Think for a moment before speaking- mirror their thoughts and feelings 4. Ask questions- be sure to say if you didn’t understand them.
