Fix the grammar and style ⋆ First vs. second vs. third person ⋆ Get help from a native speaker ⋆ Keep everything in proper tense ⋆ Read it from an audience member’s viewpoint

Show expertise ⋆ Site references ⋆ Let the audience know that you are knowledgeable ⋆ Show that what you have to say is important

Prepare aids ⋆ speaking aids - things to help you ⋆ notes (on cards) ⋆ highlights ⋆ notes to yourself (smile, speak up, move, etc.) ⋆ visual aids - for audience ⋆ “A picture is worth a thousand words” ⋆ See your organization (makes it easier to listen)

What to turn in: ⋆ A hard copy of your speech ⋆ A list of your references ⋆ A hard copy of any visual aids

Grade: ⋆ Length (best grade will be) ⋆ B or > 7 minutes ⋆ C or > 10 minutes ⋆ D ⋆ If comfortable speaking, good transitions, good introduction and conclusion, and good content -> add + ⋆ If only two or three (stay at A or B or C) ⋆ If only one -> add - ⋆ If none or very bad grammar -> one grade lower (from A to B+)
