2 STEM Network Plan Strategic Concentrations Meaningful Business Engagement Integrate STEM into Schools and Districts Strengthen Teacher Effectiveness Predictive Analysis and Measure Outcomes

3 Helios STEM School Pilot Goals: –Support a shared vision of college and career readiness. –Support a culture of high expectations for all students. –Use STEM Education as the primary vehicle for change. Objectives: –Demonstrate the integration of STEM into schools & districts. –Test the validity of STEM School Matrix as a tool to guide the design of STEM programs & schools. –Design, develop and deploy strategic information tools & resources.

4 Integrate STEM into schools and districts Collaborative effort with Education Service Agencies (ESA) and school leaders and administrators Flexible strategies for integrating STEM into schools Philosophical and cultural shift to interdisciplinary, inquiry-based and hands-on teaching and learning that is rigorous and relevant Electronic tools providing ready access to proven programs Immersion Matrix detailing steps/strategies for STEM implementation.

6 Self-Assessment A tool for identifying your level of STEM implementation. Still under development, but should be in place within 2 weeks.

7 What you’ll get: Grant awards up to $500,000 Professional development in problem/project based inquiry instruction. Support structures from your community. Web tools for on going assessment of student, teacher & program performance. STEM Technical Advisors (like me.)

8 RFP Timeline Request For Proposals: Due out this week. Letter of Intent: 1 st or 2 nd week of Oct. Completed Application: Last week of Nov Finalists selected: Jan 2013 Site reviews: Jan & Feb 2013 Final Awards: Mar 2013
