1 7Px XIG 15 Whiringa-ā-Nuku 2015 What we will do What we will learn Preliminaries and RollHow to start well See that inductors react against AC and why That inductors do work in AC circuits but… See the effect of increased inductance on AC current What L does to I in AC Assemble the Inductor Reactance formula What shape the formula is AND what the constant is Do the preliminary quHow to tackle test-type questions Set a due date for AC Unit 3 and have some HRT on it How to tackle exam-type questions

2 No. of marks What for 1 Having sketches and FULL working 1 Neat presentation and down-page format 1 Answer underlined and units given 1 Self marked and all correct – eventually 1 In on time and signed for (“This is my own work”…….) Total A mark out of five that will contribute to the “homework” grade in the reports

3 HW item Skills practiced Capacitors in DC: Unit 2 Due Wednesday 16 th of Sept Capacitor Charging and Discharging Capacitors in DC: Unit 4 Due Monday 21 st of Sept Networks of capacitors Capacitors in DC: Unit 3 Due Tuesday 22 nd of Sept Energy stored on capacitors Inductors in DC: Units 1, 2 and 3 Due Tuesday 13 th of October NCEA2 revision, Flux, Faraday’s Law and Lenz’s Law Inductors in DC: Unit 4 Due Thursday 15 th of October Transformers AC: Units 1 and 2 Due Wednesday 21 st of October RMS and Reactance in Capacitors AC: Unit 3 Due Friday 23 rd of October Reactance in Inductors

5 Unlike a DC circuit, where the light does not glow because the capacitor stops DC current, the light in an AC circuit glows all the time because… The current is constantly changing direction and flowing through the lamp as it charges the capacitor up, first from one side and then from another
