There are different expressions and forms of prayer (more on those in the next lesson). The Lord’s prayer, or Our Father is sometimes called the perfect prayer. It is a summation of the entire Gospel. It teaches: Prayer is communication with God. It is God upon whom we should rely physically and spiritually. Helps us resist temptation and petition effectively.

We are Allowed to call God Father. What kind of God permits that? Our relationship is of a son of God, protected by a heavenly Father. Jesus becomes our sibling Through redemption (Objective? Subjective? Both?) we are incorporated into the mystical body of Christ.

Hallowed is Old English for holy. This is also a profession of faith and seeks holiness in life for the one professing it. The kingdom of God consists of the reign of Christ. It was established at the Incarnation This petition asks for the kingdom of God to continue to spread throughout the world.

Earth becomes Heaven insofar as God’s will occurs here. God’s will is for us to love God and love neighbor as self. Our daily needs are physical as well as spiritual. This is a petition to give every person what is best in life.

Think of this as an “If – Then” statement. If I am forgiving of others, then please show forgiveness to me. If I show mercy to others, then please show mercy to me. Seek forgiveness from those you have wronged. Love unconditionally.

God does not lead us into sin, that come from Satan, but is a consequence of free choice. Concupiscence – know what it means. Temptation provides you a moral choice, which means it gives you the opportunity to say yes to God. Amen – Hebrew for “so be it” An expression of faith in God and trust that things prayed for will come to pass.
