1 VLT Examples

2  Purpose, Focus, and Organization 4 Example of introduction: The USA is a country, a unified nation, a family. Everyone in the United States should contribute evenly without question. Do we not all live on the same soil? School, or public education systems, need to implement a required number of service hours for graduation. For the liberty of the nation, we were given freedom by the deaths of many; now it’s time to give back. Service hours not only helps the world and communities around us but it upgrades individuals with great characteristics, goals to be reached and growing up to be an adult. Condensed Thesis - Requiring community service hours will not only helps the world and communities around us it will also upgrade individuals to have great goals and adult characteristics. Thesis!

3 VLT Examples  Purpose, Focus, and Organization 4 Example of conclusion: Community service hours should be required for graduation. Not only does it benefit students by giving them the much needed resources they will need later on, but it is also giving back to the community. Being taught discipline, responsibility, and time management is important in a young adult’s life; it allows them to acquire a skill set that they will be required to develop. Community service hours can also give them hands- on experience for a possible career and help students find their true passion. Equipping students with the necessary skill requirements allows them to strive further in an increasingly globalized world. Feeling a sense of pride for helping a community in need is the greatest reward. Thesis connection

4 VLT Examples  Evidence and Elaboration 4 Example body paragraph: Advocates for volunteer hours are quick to point out the obvious benefits of community service from learning life skills like how to function under an authority figure to learning specific skills regarding a possible job in the future. There are undeniable advantages to someone who partakes in community service. As Simrin Gupta says, in his article about pros and cons of community service, Students that clean up the environment end up picking up a lot more than trash.” Simrin is, of course, referring to the life skills one can learn. However, someone who is not interested in volunteering won’t pick these skills up, even if they are forced to volunteer. People who want to help will help, especially when given opportunities or even incentives to do so. This should be the goal of high schools; to gently push their students towards lending a helping hand, not forcing them to do so. By offering rewards like special recognition or even extra credit, schools will help students obtain real rewards, those being life skills, how they should obtain them, by choice. Counterclaim and concession Rebuttal and elaboration
