3. 1649 Charles I beheaded – found guilty of treason Cromwell becomes leader of England – called “The Protector” (Many Puritans return to England from the Colonies ) (Many supporters of Charles I immigrate to the colonies)

4. 1658 Oliver Cromwell dies

5. 1660 Parliament reinstates the monarchy Charles II becomes King Son of Charles I His reign becomes known as “The Restoration”
