Defining Digital Literacy What is Digital Literacy? Digital Literacy is a set of skills and concepts that help people use and understand different types of technologies. - Using technology - Ability to perform tasks - Access to technology - Comfort/Confidence with technology - Understanding technology - Aware of different types of technology and of use-case scenarios - Thinking critically about technology - Considering how and why people use different technologies

Digital Literacy Connections Technology - Digital literacy broadly considers how people use different types of technologies. - Types of technologies include devices like smartphones, computers, the Internet, etc. - Digital literacy looks at how different technologies connect and interact together as part of a network.

Digital Literacy Connections Digital literacy is connected to other concepts, including: Information Literacy - The ability to find, evaluate, and effectively use information. - Finding and using information often involves being able to effectively use different types of technologies and tools. Critical Thinking Skills - Solving problems, analyzing and evaluating information, explaining concepts and ideas, etc. - Critical thinking is at the heart of digital literacy Communication Skills - Being able to share information and ideas, and to use technology to do this, is a key part of digital literacy.

Digital Literacy and Future Ready Skills - Future Ready or 21 st Century Skills are skills that people need to effectively participate and engage in the 21 st century. - These skills include technology skills, ways of thinking and, overall, useful life skills. - Future Ready prep helps students get ready for college, the workforce, etc. Whatever path they pursue!

Activity: Digital Literacy Lesson Planning Work with a partner to develop a digital literacy activity that incorporates some of the Future Ready skills we discussed. - Develop an activity (or activities!) with your own site in mind. - Bonus if you can develop one digital literacy activity that involves technology and a second activity that is technology-free.
