1 Public Speaking Oh no! What should I do? Renee Cross

2 Content Understand the content that you are presenting. – Have team members quiz you on your topic. – Write an outline of any and all of your ideas/ knowledge on the topic. Prepare note cards that cover main points. – Use your outline to write note cards that explain your project. – Number the note cards to keep them in order. – Place a title on the note card so you know the main idea.

3 Prepared Have your presentation and all extra materials completed early. Time – Make sure you know how long you are allowed to speak and plan enough material to speak for that amount of time. Practice – Practice in front of: » a mirror » your team members » your parents

4 Body Language Come neat and clean – Dress nicely. – Pay extra attention to your personal hygiene. Posture – Turn your body toward the audience. – Stand up straight. – Stand to one side of the projector screen. – Make eye contact. Express yourself – Display enthusiasm, appear positive and interested in what you are saying. – Smile and try to stay calm, know that your facial expressions are communicating with the audience. – Use your hands to gesture or clasp them together behind your back.

5 Voice Speak – Loudly – Clearly – Slowly enough that everyone in the audience understands you. Use language that is appropriate for you audience. Try using pauses to emphasize a point or add impact to what you are saying. Stay on topic.
