Carbon Cycle Game Review

Carbon 1 of 4 essential elements Part of oceans, rocks, soil, and all life! Always on the move!

Carbon moves from atmosphere to plants. – Attached to oxygen to form CO2 – Pulled from air to be used in photosynthesis (when plants make food)

Carbon moves from plants to animals. – When animals eat plants (and when animals eat other animals.)

Carbon moves from plants & animals to the ground. – When they decay the carbon in their bodies returns to the soil/ground.

Carbon moves from living things to the atmosphere. – During respiration, CO2 is exhaled.

Carbon moves from fossil fuels to atmosphere. – When fossil fuels are burned (combustion)

Carbon moves from the atmosphere to the oceans. – Surface ocean

Carbon is found in the deep ocean. – Component of shells/bones of marine organisms. – When these die they are deposited on the ocean floor to eventually form sedimentary rock.

When limestone erodes due to exposure to wind or water, carbon becomes available to other organisms again.

Assignment: With your group, create your own version of the c cycle. – It should include the 6 reservoirs from the game (labeled) – It should use arrows to show the flow of carbon between reservoirs (the processes should be labeled)
