GLLOA Multiple & Simultaneous Fouls
2
GLLOA 2 Simultaneous Fouls Called on players of opposing teams during a Live ball or a Dead ball when sequence cannot be determined Translated: Two fouls during a live ball or Two dead ball fouls without order
3
GLLOA 3 Simultaneous Fouls During a slow whistle or play-on, any foul committed by the team in possession (or entitled to possession) shall result in an immediate whistle. Translated: When Team A fouls – blow the whistle
4
GLLOA 4 Penalty Time If there is no play-on or flag down in effect and if all fouls are technical, the fouls cancel. If the team in possession (or entitled to possession) commits: Only technical fouls, no penalty time will be served by that team. Any personal foul, all players involved will serve penalty time. Translated: If Team A commits a personal foul everyone’s serving time
5
GLLOA 5 Award the Ball Criteria 1: When penalty time is awarded and one team incurs less total penalty time than its opponent, that team shall be awarded the ball. Translated: Whoever has less penalty time gets the ball
6
GLLOA 6 Award the Ball Criteria 2: When penalty times are equal or all fouls cancel: If a team has possession or is entitled to possession at the time of the flag or whistle, that team shall retain possession. If neither team has possession at the time of the fouls, the ball shall be awarded according to the alternate- possession rule or, when a faceoff is pending in this situation, the faceoff will be held. Translated: If penalty times are equal, give the ball back to the team that had possession
7
GLLOA 7 Multiple Fouls Possession TechnicalPersonal Possession by Team A Team A fouls Note: A is the team with possession B is the defense Team B fouls (FDSW) FDSW ends Team B serves penalty time Team A serves no time Team A awarded possession FDSW ends (Simultaneous Fouls) Team A & B serve penalty time (common time is non-releasable) Ball is awarded to the team with the least total penalty time; if equal, A keeps possession. No free clear
8
GLLOA 8 Multiple Fouls Loose Ball TechnicalPersonal Loose Ball Team 2 fouls Team 2’s technical foul ends the play-on Team 2 is awarded possession No one serves penalty time Simultaneous fouls – when all fouls are technical, no time is served Team 2’s personal foul ends the play on (Simultaneous foul) Team 1 serves 0:30; Team 2 serves 1:00–3:00; 30 seconds non-releasable The ball is awarded to Team 1 based on less total penalty time No free clear (exception to Rule 7-3) Technical (Play-On) Personal Team 1 fouls Immediate whistle Team 2 awarded possession Free clear
9
GLLOA 9 Multiple Fouls Dead Ball TechnicalPersonal Dead Ball Fouls Team with possession or entitled to possession maintains possession No penalty time served by either team If a face-off is pending, have the face-off or award the ball by A.P. Award ball to the team with less total penalty time If penalty time is equal and one team was entitled to possession, they maintain possession Both players locked in for shortest penalty time If penalty time is equal and a face-off is pending, have the face-off or award the ball by A.P. Simultaneous (or sequence can’t be determined) Separate Sequence ? Enforce in order that fouls occur.
10
GLLOA 10 Restart When play is resumed either by award or possession, field position of the ball shall be provided for as in Rule 7-3. 7-3 Exception: For simultaneous fouls where time is to be served by each team, the ball will be put in play at the spot where the ball was when the whistle blew or laterally outside the goal area nearest to the spot of the ball at the time of the whistle Translated: Restart as usual unless both teams are serving penalty time. Then restart where the ball was (or outside the box)
11
GLLOA 11 Penalty Release For the purpose of determining when a player or players may be released from a penalty, for all time- serving penalties called on players of opposing teams from the time the flag is dropped or the whistle sounds stopping play (whichever occurs first), until the sounding of the whistle resuming play, the lesser amount of penalty time shall be treated as non- releasable. Translated: If multiple penalties start at the same time, the common penalty time is Non-Releasable
12
GLLOA 12 Penalty Release Players serving multiple simultaneous penalties shall serve the full time of all non-releasable penalties first. After the non-releasable time has been served, should a goal be scored during the releasable penalty time, the player could return to the game, but not if a goal is scored during the non-releasable penalty time. Translated: Non-Releasable penalties are served first
13
GLLOA 13 Situation A Team A has possession Team B fouls (slash); flag down Team A commits a technical foul (ward) Result: Team B serves penalty time Team A gets possession
14
GLLOA 14 Situation B Team A has possession Team B fouls (slash); flag down Team A commits a personal foul (slash) Result: Team A & B both serve penalty time Common time is non-releasable Team with less penalty time gets the ball (or Team A) No free clear

GLLOA 24 Test Yourself B1 slashes A1. Flag down. Play continues. A1 passes to teammate A2, then turns to slash B1 in retaliation. What is the correct enforcement? a)Whistle blows stopping play upon A1’s slash of B1. Both A1 & B1 serve 1 minute non-releasable fouls. The ball is awarded by alternate possession at the center of the field. b)Whistle blows stopping play upon A1’s slash of B1. Both A1 & B1 serve 1 minute non-releasable fouls. The ball is awarded to Team B, because the foul on A1 was last. Restart is at the center of the field. c)Whistle blows stopping play upon A1’s slash of B1. Both A1 & B1 serve 1 minute non-releasable fouls. Since both fouls were “live ball” fouls Team A will retain possession upon restart. Restart will take place outside the attack goal area. d)Let play continue until Team B gains possession of the ball. Both A1 & B1 serve 1 minute non-releasable fouls. Ball is awarded to the team trailing in the game, at center. If the game is tied, flip a coin.

GLLOA 25 Test Yourself B1 slashes A1. Flag down. Play continues. A1 shoots the ball and misses the goal. The ball goes out of bounds stopping play. A1 turns & slashes B1 in retaliation. What is the correct enforcement? a)Both A1 & B1 serve 1 minute non-releasable fouls. The ball is awarded by alternate possession, at the center of the field. b)Both A1 & B1 serve 1 minute non-releasable fouls. The ball is awarded to Team B, because the foul by A1 occurred after the whistle blew to stop play & was a dead ball foul. Restart will be at the center of the field. c)Both A1 & B1 serve 1 minute non-releasable fouls. Team A is awarded the ball, because A1 was fouled first. Ball is restarted outside the attack goal area. d)Both A1 & B1 serve 1 minute non-releasable fouls. The ball awarded to the team trailing in the game, at the center of the field. If the game is tied, flip a coin.
26
GLLOA 26 Test Yourself B1 pushes A1 while attempting to gain possession of a loose ball. Play-on. Before the ball is possessed A2 slashes B1. Whistle sounds to stop play, What is the correct enforcement? a)Only B1 serves penalty time & the ball is awarded to Team A. b)Only A2 serves penalty time & the ball is awarded to Team B. c)B1 serves 30 seconds & A2 serves 1 minute. These are simultaneous live ball fouls. The ball is awarded to Team B, because they have the lesser penalty time. d)B1 serves 30 seconds & A2 serves 1 minute. Award the ball to Team B, because the assessment of fouls is done in the order in which the occurred.
