8
The greatest common factor (GCF) of two or more whole numbers is the greatest whole number that divides evenly into each number.
9
One way to find the GCF of two or more numbers is to list all the factors of the numbers. 32 1 2 4 8 16 32
10
Find the greatest common factor of 24, 36, 48
11
Or we can use prime factorization to find the GCF by multiplying the common factors. 60, 45
12
To find the GCF write the prime factorization of each number and circle the common prime factors. Then multiply the common prime factors.
13
Find the GCF: 504, 132, 96, 60
14
The GCF is the product of the least power of each common prime factor that appears as a divisor for each term.
19
Until next time, With a classmate, review the two methods for finding the GCF- using a list and using prime factorization. Tell your classmate which method you prefer and why.
