Audience Elementary level students, grades 4-5. Little to no previous knowledge of recycling.

Learning Environment To be used in a classroom where each student has a computer. Students direct the presentation, and complete quiz by themselves.

Objectives After completing the presentation, students should be able to identify and define what it means to recycle, how to recycle, why it is important, and what types of products can and cannot be recycled. Students will show this by completing the quiz with 100% accuracy.

What Is Recycling? Recycling, is the act of turning something already used, into something new and useable. Can you think of something that you can recycle? Click the star for an example! Turning an old baby food jar into a holder for paper clips!

Why Is Recycling Important? Almost anything can be recycled into something new. However it is important for our environment, to reuse as many things as possible to reduce our waste.

How Can You Recycle? Recycling is easy! Almost anything can be recycled. If you cannot find a use around the house for your recyclables, you can take them to your local recycling center.

Recycling Tips A few tips for recycling: Check to see if your family has a recycling pick-up service with your garbage. If you do, look for bins like these next to your garbage can! Make sure you separate your recyclables by material: Glass Plastic Paper

Newspaper What happens when newspaper is recycled?

Newspaper cont.…. When newspaper arrives at the recycling plant, it gets washed and turned into mush. The newspaper is then sent to be bleached, so all the ink is gone. It is then dried out and pressed flat.
