Problem Set 2 Question 1 By: Zac Snively

Question Asked Fifty middle school students were given an assignment to complete. The graph to the right (on the next slide) shows the frequency distribution of the number of days it took to complete the assignment. What is the mean number of days it took a student to complete the assignment?

Chart presented in the problem Number of Students Number of Days

Reading the graph This graph contains 50 data points because it surveyed 50 students. For finding the mean the information on the graph can be presented like this: 5 students took 1 day to complete the assignment 10 students took 2 days to complete the assignment 15 students took 3 days to complete the assignment 15 students took 4 days to complete the assignment 5 students took 5 days to complete the assignment

Solving the problem Mean is the average of all of the data points. So to solve for the mean we do the following: 5(1)+10(2)+15(3)+15(4)+5(5)=135 *Number of people(Number of days)* 135/50=2.7 The mean number of days it took to complete the assignment was 2.7 days.
