Abolitionists : a person who strongly favors doing away with slavery. Amendment : an addition to a formal document such as the constitution. Adams, Samuel : helped start an organization called “Sons of Liberty”

Blockade Runner: ship that sails into and out of a blockade area. Boycott : refuse to buy items for a particular country Burgesses : elected representatives to an assembly

Cotton Gin : machine that removed seeds from cotton fiber. Civil War : conflict between opposing groups. Cash Crop : form crop raised to be sold for money.

Depression : period of law economic activity and widespread. Decree: order of decision given by one authority. Davis, Jefferson: senator of Missouri

Emancipation : freeing of slavery. Export : sells goods aboard. Embargo : order prohibiting trade w/ another country.
