ATV / UTV Safety Training Program Whitetail Resort Department of Safety & Risk Mgt.
2
ATV’s are extremely beneficial to Resort operations. They are generally good for: Traversing rough terrain Use in snow or mud Allow access to remote locations Use during emergency or disasters Carrying tools and workers
3
On the up side Ease of traversing rough terrains Relatively simple to operate Adaptable to many different situations Reasonable cost (vs. conventional 4WD Truck)
4
On the down side Simplicity hides the real dangers of use Use and Risk factors Rough terrains are hazardous terrains
5
Risk Factors to Address for Use At Work Training Environment Abilities Weather Maintenance
6
Loading Factors Affecting Safe Use: Variable loading issues Overloading (cargo and passengers) Miss-loading Out-of-balance conditions
7
Think about it! “Driving a car qualifies a person to operate an ATV in the same way that driving a car qualifies one to ride a horse in a race”.
8
Know This!!!! Use an ATV only when no other reasonable means of transport or access is available. If you can walk to get the job done, do so! A minor will not at any time operate an ATV. While operating an ATV the Operator should have a radio with them. Before the ATV can be used you must check the gas, oil, lights, condition of the vehicle and other safety conditions. Do not operate an ATV without completing this program.
