Galatians 5:16-18 So, I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

The Loss of Self-Control
A not so thankful Thanksgiving Day experience… What I’ve learned from Daniel’s self-control in Daniel 1… How I feed my body physically and spiritually have a lot in common… Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Self-Control No law against it, can’t have too much of it… Fruit of the spirit, in other words, it’s a product of God’s work in our lives… Without it we are doomed…

Self-Control? The Difference between WANT & NEED That’s SELF-CONTROL

Defined as… Webster defines it this way, “restraint exercised over one’s own impulses” From the Greek Thayer defines it this way, “the virtue of one who masters his desires and passions, especially his sensual appetites, gratification of the senses” And this thought, “Where this virtue subsists, temptation can have little influence”.

2 Peter 1:5-6 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self- control (short term / long term) perseverance, to perseverance godliness,

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control Against such there is no law.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

Invitation 1 Thessalonians 5:1… 6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
