SCIENCE 27 MARCH 2009 “ResearcherID, launched officially in January 2008, is only one in a wave of initiatives trying to pin a number on researchers. It’s the creation of digital information company Thomson Reuters, which hopes to enhance the value of its paid services.” Good reading to understand customer needs and competitive landscape Download from: http://science.thomsonreuters.co m/news/2009-04/8515143/ http://science.thomsonreuters.co m/news/2009-04/8515143/

WHAT IS ResearcherID? A registry that assigns a researcher a unique persistent identification number as well as collects contact information about the researcher. Allows connection from customer’s administrative systems for direct access to registry. A friendly web interface provides a secure environment that allows the researcher to: –Register –Share their profile and scholarly output –Find colleagues around the world for collaboration Interacts with Web of Science content to provide researchers with bibliographic data and citation counts for creation of their publication list.
12
WHY ResearcherID ? The explosion of research worldwide and the multiplication of content outlets combine to create even greater demand for a system that verifies the specifics of who wrote what. Name ambiguity is a recurring issue that impacts: –Career advancement and tenure –Global collaboration between researchers –Identification and attribution of one’s scholarly works for funding Being found, and finding colleagues in a global research environment is imperative for collaborating with the local and global research community. “ Asian names lost in Transliteration”

What’s New in 1.6? Integration with EndNote Web allows members to build, manage and share your ResearcherID publication lists with colleagues. Multiple publication lists help authors manage their work; two additional publication lists have been added for all users More clearly identify a collaborator by verifying affiliation - use the address field when searching Web of Science® and ISI Web of Knowledge from ResearcherID A new tool will show authors which articles have already been added to their publication list when they're searching Web of Science or ISI Web of Knowledge Enhancements to RIS file upload: Over 30 more reference types are supported. Author supplied URL’s can be added per publication, allowing links out to full text articles or materials hosted on other sites. Renaming of two additional publication lists.
16
Items to Note Record editing, renaming of additional publication lists are features available only through End Note Web interface (changes will be reflected in ResearcherID). ResearcherID will no longer check for duplicates as End Note Web allows them. –There is currently an issue with searching ResearcherID publications using the End Note Web find duplicates tool due to the fact that ResearcherID does not capture all authors. Capture of all author details for records is planned for Q2 release.
