Background Services market in the EU (70% of GDP and employment in EU); Service standardization not completely new to CEN (numerous service aspects already exist in available standards); Standardization exclusively in services currently tentative and ad-hoc; Standards concerning the service sector need to expand.

Plan of Action 2003 August 2003: –Public enquiry launched by CEN/CMC on the web (www.cenorm.be);www.cenorm.be October 2003: –EC Programming Mandate M/340 in the field of services addressed to CEN, CENELEC and ETSI; November 2003: –CEN Interim Report presented on the results received on the enquiry; December 2003: –Approval of the mandate by CEN in the field of services.

2004 9 th March EC workshop ‘European Standardization for Services’; Creation of CEN/BT/WG 163 ‘Service Standardization’; Establishment of CEN/TF 167 ‘Security Services’ (Secretariat DIN); 11 th May CEN Open Day on Service Standardization for European Federations; Interim Report on M/340 to EC (June 2004); Final Report on M/340 to EC (end 2004);

CEN ‘Services’ 2004 CEN participation in EC ‘European Forum on Business Related Services’; Development of current service standardization work; Development of new service standardization projects with the help of all stakeholders; Organization of ‘Services’ CEN Conference (beginning 2005);
