Research Web quest Chinese Cinderella

Setting the Scene You are going to be reading Chinese Cinderella this term so lets find out what you know about China. What do you know about Chinese culture, the food, the homes and lifestyle? What was life like for a young girl living in China in 1940’s? We are going to be using the Internet and other research tools to gain a better understanding of the culture and what life was like for Adeline Mah!

Task In order to increase the numbers of international tourists visiting the area in which Adeline Mah lived, the CEO of the Chinese Tourist Board has asked your media company to create an original way of informing the visitors about the Chinese way of life in the 1940’s.

Process- part one Your media company consists of four people, each person will become an expert on one aspect of the project. In your group, brainstorm what you already know about China and its people. One person will need to be the recorder and keep a record of the brainstorm. Next, you will each need to choose an area of personal interest for further research. This will enable you to become the group’s expert. e.g. the expert on food, clothing or calligraphy.

Process- part two Before you start your individual research discuss with your team how you will present your findings in an original way. Remember your aim is to capture the interest of the tourists.original One person in your team will be nominated as the editor and will be responsible for managing the collation of the different aspects.

Process - part three When you have decided in your team who is going to be responsible for each topic you will need to collect from your teacher a worksheet. Using the worksheet you need to write three key questions for your area of interest. Your teacher will check your questions before you begin your research.

Individual Research Now your individual work begins, using a dot and jot sheet collect information on your topic. A good place to start your research is to use the Resources section in this web quest. Resources Review your initial questions and see if they can be improved. Make any changes that are necessary. Hand the sheet of key questions to your teacher.

Writing up the research When the teacher has reviewed your questions you can begin to write up your research notes in your own words. Remember to use paragraphs The next stage is to work with your group on how you can present all your information to the class. The team leader will write up the plan and hand it to your teacher before you begin working on your presentation.
