3 Lincoln worked hard for Congress to pass the 13th Amendment. No slavery in the U.S.!!

4 Civil War ends in Appomattox, Virginia on April 9. General Lee wants the Southern people to reconcile with the North

5 General Grant, General Lee at Appamattox

6 Lincoln's Reconstruction policy is for the North and South to reconcile. Do Lincoln and General Lee agree? Lincoln is assassinated on April 15.

7 The next president is Andrew Johnson. He becomes leader of Reconstruction.

8 If Southern states want to come back into the Union, they MUST accept the 13 th Amendment. (Do they want to accept the 13 th Amendment?)
