What? › Analyze lighting techniques › Analyze performance of actors/actresses Why? › Provide ideas for lighting manipulation in your film. › Discuss elements that should be considered in your actor/actress choices and look book rationale.
2
Background lighting : provide separation between the subject and the background; placed directly behind the subject and pointed at the background. Cameo lighting : a spotlight that accentuates a single person in a scene.
3
Key light : highlights the form and dimension of the subject; supposed to represent the sun; main light on a subject Back light : light positioned above and behind the subject; will cast a glow on the subject, making it look 3-D instead of blending into the background Fill light : Illuminates shadowed areas that key light will cast; gives a more 3-D look
4
Soft light: tends to "wrap" around objects, casting shadows with soft edges
5
Hard light : Wraps around subject but creates harder edges
6
Low key light: accentuates the contours of an object by throwing areas into shade while a fill light or reflector may illuminate the shadow areas to control contrast
7
High-key lighting: free from dark shadows; creates an upbeat mood
