Authentic Intellectual Work
13
AIW F RAMEWORK S TANDARDS Maximize expectations of intellectual rigor for all students. Increase student interest in academic work. Support teachers taking time to teach for in-depth understanding rather than superficial coverage of material. Provide a common conception of student intellectual work that promotes professional community among teachers of different grade levels and subjects. Most important, equip students to address the complex intellectual challenges of work, civic participation, and managing personal affairs in the contemporary world.

S TUDENT R EFLECTIONS I Learned…. We need higher order thinking in the classroom I need to do HOT to do well in class. Bloom’s Taxonomy – I did not know what it was before Use HOT to better engage in class. Learn about Value Beyond SchoolTeachers are trying to improve classrooms in order to prepare students better. The things teachers are trying to change make us think at higher levels Teachers are trying to help us become critical thinkers Working in groups in very important to succeed The teachers are going to start cracking down on more in-depth thinking I learned how big the student’s responsibility is I didn’t know that teachers had to do so much work and analyzing at those Thursday morning meetings. It was interesting to me to learn about AIW and what we are trying to accomplishing at AHST. AHST staff and principal are super serious about having students use their knowledge. Teachers work so hard and they need to see if we are learning more or not.
