2. www.aurp.ca History of Research Parks Founded in 1951, the Stanford University Research Park was the first research park of its kind in the world. Other major research park developments followed over the next three decades, most notably the Research Triangle Park in North Carolina in 1959 and Innovation Place in Saskatchewan in 1980. Today, North American research parks occupy 47,000 acres and include 124 million square feet of space.
