The Plant Kingdom By: Jess Petrie and Peter Crowley
3
Introduction This presentation is about the plant kingdom In this presentation we will talk about how plants: Reproduce Plant Structure Plant feeding And different Species of plants
4
Structure The cells of plants are eukariotic Leaves, plants, and fruits are slippery and smooth to prevent water loss Plant cells are a lot larger than animal cells Plant cells are multicellular Plant cells contain a cell wall, plasma membrane, lysosome, mitochondrion, cytoplasm, endoplasmic reticulum, chloroplast, free ribosomes, ribosomes, golgi apparatus, cytoskeleton, vacuole with cell sap, nucleolus, nucleus
6
Feeding Plants cells obtain energy from sun light (photosynthesis) Plants convert sunlight into energy by using chloroplast Chloroplast is chlorophyll containing cell organelles found in the cells of green plants Plants also use aerobic respiration (feeding on glucose and oxygen) Plants are self staining because of these two feeding processes, feeding on each other They feed on each other because in photosynthesis creates glucose and oxygen and respiration feeds on glucose and oxygen to create carbon dioxide and water, then photosynthesis uses carbon dioxide, water and sun light to feed Photosynthesis H 2 O + CO 2 (absorbs light energy) ® C 6 H 12 O 6 + O 2 Respiration C 6 H 12 O 6 + O 2 ® H 2 O + CO 2 (releases ATP energy)
7
Reproduction Plants use spores and seeds to reproduce A seed or spore develops after fertilization takes place A seed is made up of three parts—sporophytes, stored food, and a tough seed coat that surrounds the seed
