Why Do You Want Him?
3
Again, here is my challenge to you.
4
There is an enemy that lurks within all humans that desires to ruin all good relationships.
5
It is selfishness.
6
“What is the motivation behind you being a follower of Christ?”
7
Is all you are interested in what you want from the Spirit?
8
God is not interested in helping people who are only concerned about themselves.
9
We have already learned that when the Spirit is in charge He makes us like Jesus.
10
One of the ways He makes us like Jesus is that He gives us the ability to love like Him.
11
Romans 5:5
12
How do you get love?
13
You give love.
14
At the end of his discussion on the gifts of the Holy Spirit Paul said, “And now I will show you the most excellent way.”
15
1 Corinthians 13
16
When you give the Spirit control of your life then you will have a desire to get into the Word of God and spend more time with God in prayer.
17
How does this work?
18
As you give the Spirit opportunity He begins to do a very important work.
19
He begins to grow your knowledge and understanding of just how much God loves you.
20
Ephesians 3:16-19
21
The longer we humble ourselves and submit to the Spirit’s guidance the stronger this love grows.
22
As followers of Christ we are most alive when we are loving God and others and actively giving of ourselves because that love motivates us to do it.
23
John 13:34-35
24
our spiritual business card
25
So how do we go from being only concerned about what we want to a person who is willing to let the Spirit have everything He wants in our life?
26
The only thing that is going to motivate us to let Him be in charge is when we love Him enough to trust Him.
27
He has to be in charge so that we can be changed and have this much love for Him.
28
We can be changed from a person who only goes to God to get something FROM Him to someone who also goes to God to give something TO Him.
29
“The Spirit’s power is brought to bear where the Spirit is in charge.”
30
Once we have grown in our love for Him, then the Spirit helps us love our church-the people-and desire to help them to grow into a deeper walk with the Spirit.
31
1 Corinthians 14:12
32
Loving our church requires three things:
33
1) that our hearts are aligned with His vision for the church
34
2) that we are filled with genuine love for the church
35
3) that we desire to see the church grow in love for God and others
36
Philippians 1:23-26

“All will go well with you.”
