Before coming to America, Ji-li Jiang endured the Cultural Revolution in China which was brought to life in the pages of her autobiography Red Scarf Girl. Since its publication, she has been asked to speak at hundreds of venues and conferences ~ all in an attempt to promote cultural understanding. She wrote this on her web page: “…a better understanding among people around the world is the only route to global peace.” After leaving China where she was a science teacher, Ji-li Jiang studied in Hawaii & worked for a hotel chain there, she worked for a healthcare company in Chicago, and also lived in the Seattle area. She ultimately settled in the San Francisco Bay area. Her parents live near her and they visit daily. Her father still appears in films under the name Henry O.

Ji-li Jiang (1954 - ) Her writing has garnered over 15 different awards. With her writing, one goal is to do her part to achieve global peace. In 2003, she started a nonprofit organization called Cultural Exchange International which promotes both cultural and business exchanges between China and the west. She continues her speaking engagements at schools and various conferences throughout the world. She has even led large groups of people to China so others can understand its rich culture. What questions, based on these slides, could you ask when you speak with her on Wednesday?
