3. Ser – means “to be”  The word “ser” is in the INFINITIVE form, which means it is a verb with no subject.  In order to give the verb “ser” a subject, it must be CONJUGATED.  Conjugating means breaking down an infinitive in order to give a verb a subject and put it into action.  By conjugating the verb “ser,” the infinitive meaning is changed from “to be” to: “I am, You are, He is, She is, We are, They are, You all are.”

5. Forms of the verb Ser- to be yo - soy nosotros (as) - somos tú - eres Él / ella / usted- es ellos /ellas/ ustedes – son

6. When do you use the verb ser? To describe a person A. Explain who he or she is (Classifying / Labeling)  Ex. Sofía es estudiante.  Ustedes son chicos.  Nosotras somos mujeres.

7. When do you use the verb ser? To describe a person B. To say where a person is from (Expressing ORIGIN) Use SER + de + el lugar (place)= (to be)+ from+ ______  Ex. Tú eres de Georgia.  Ricardo es de Costa Rica.  How do you say : I am from Georgia?  (Yo) soy de Georgia.

8. When do you use the verb ser? To describe a person C. To describe a person’s personality (Physical and Personality Traits)using ADJECTIVES. Examples :  La Señora Torres es baja.  Los chicos son aplicados.  How do you say : I am tall? (Yo) soy alto.
