1. Text: Matthew 5:8

2.  The word used to describe the heart that shall see God is "pure" ("katharos" in Greek). It is used in three ways.   1. Originally it simply meant "clean." It was used to describe soiled clothes that had been washed clean.  2. It was regularly used to describe corn that had been winnowed or sifted from all chaff. It was also used of an army which had been purged of all its discontented, cowardly, unwilling and inefficient soldiers. It was therefore describing a force of first-class fighting men.  3. It commonly appeared with another Greek adjective "akerotos." This word was used to describe milk that was unadulterated with water or a metal which was free from any alloys.

4. "If we claim to be [present tense] without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us." I John 1:8 "So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me." Romans 7:21

5. "And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight." "so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ. 11. filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ - to the glory and praise of God." 7. "I write to you fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning... I write to you, dear children, because you have known the Father." I John 2:13 “To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." Colossians 1:27

8. "Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel." Ephesians 6:19

10. "Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place." Psalm 51:6 "I will give you a new heart and a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh."
