D1 - Task 4 For D1, learners need to select a business and make a balanced presentation of the benefits and drawbacks of going online and make a justified conclusion about whether it would be a good idea to proceed with an on-line presence. It may be an idea to look at the feasibility of the Local Biz Project for Challenge College. 3. Task 5 For P3, learners need to appreciate what goes on behind an online presence; that creating a website is only the end of the process. They should investigate the functional areas behind an online presence and how these interact to support the website. Learners could investigate a local business to find out about the day-to-day running of its website. Findings should be presented as a brochure. In particular students should look at Planning issues; including the suitability of the business for an online operation; choice of domain name(s); set-up issues - e.g. in-house or outsourced and availability of resources to cope. They also need to look at Implementation issues: availability of technical and design skills; customisation; extent of online operations e.g. passive, partially and fully interactive; changing user specifications; relationship with partners e.g. financial services, distribution and delivery services.
