How these Changes affect Our Lives and the Earth

 When heat is added to ice, it melts and forms water.  When heat is added to water, it forms a gas: water vapor.

 Glaciers melting  Snow melting  Fog

 The Sun warms soil and allows a see to germinate.  The Sun warms the sand at the beach.  The Sun provides heat for plants and animals.

 Some rocks change because of heat and pressure.  Some rocks are formed because the heat inside of the Earth is so great that it melts them. New rocks are formed when the molten rock cools.

Snow cools the ground and the atmosphere. Water enters small cracks in rocks. The water freezes and expands. The cracks get bigger and will eventually break apart the rock. The water in the polar regions is cooled and forms ice.

 Can cause change in the properties of materials.  Not all materials respond the same way to being heated.  Not all materials respond the same way to being cooled.
