Sewing Safety

Scissor Safety Always leave scissors closed when not in use.
Always lay down on flat surface, away from edge of table. Hand scissors to others handle first.

Other Sharp Objects Pins and Needles Seam Rippers
Place pins on pin cushion magnet when not using them. Never put pins or needles in your mouth. If you drop a pin or needle, pick it up immediately. Seam Rippers Handle with care, they are very sharp! Never rip a seam toward your body – rip in the opposite direction. Do not lay fabric on your lap to rip.

Machine safety Do not sew with bent or broken needles.
Sew at a slow speed if machine allows. Fingers should be on either side of presser foot – not directly in front of the foot or needle. Let the machine move the fabric – don’t force the fabric through the machine. Don’t sew over pins – stop sewing and remove pins just before they would be run over.

More machine safety Take your foot off the pedal each time you stop sewing. Keep cords untangled and out of the way. Turn the machine off before you unplug it. Unplug the machine by pulling the plug, not the cord. Remove the plug from the outlet before you remove it from the machine.
