Infinitives and gustar

* Infinitives tell the meaning of a verb without naming any subject. * Ser – to be * Soy – I am * Eres – you are * Etc…

* In Spanish there are three types of infinitives. * -ar * -er * -ir * Cantar * Comer * Escribir

* How do you say “what do you like?” * ¿Qué te gusta? * The verb “hacer” means to do or to make. By adding it to the end of the question above we get “What do you like to do?” * ¿Qué te gusta hacer?

* Just like nouns, infinitives can be used after a verb like gustar to say what you and others like to do. * Me gusta la música. * Me gusta cantar. ♬♩ ♪ ♩ ♫

* Always use gusta with infinitives. * Me gustan los deportes. * Me gusta correr.

* Remember what happens when “de” is followed by the definite article “el”? * It does not stay “de el”it changes to “del” * Well a similar thing happens when you have “a el”. It changes to “al”

* When saying that you like to play a sport this is the pattern you will use: * Me gusta + jugar + a + def article + sport * If you like to play tennis, you would say: * Me gusta jugar al fútbol.

* Completa las oraciones. 1. Me gusta… 2. No me gusta… 3. Me gusta salir con… 4. Me gusta ir al cine con… 5. A mi mejor amigo(a) le gusta… 6. A mi familia a a mí nos gusta… 7. A mis amigos les gusta… 8. A mis amigos y a mí nos gusta…

* Say whether or not you like to do the things pictured. * Me gusta jugar al básquetbol. * No me gusta jugar al básquetbol.

* 1. Translate: What do you like to do? * 2. Translate: My friends and I like to swim. * Using the picture below say your opinion. (I like to _ or I don’t like to _.)
