2 Passing Statistics  Most accidents occur on a two lane highway when vehicles collide head-on.  Most deaths are caused by improper and careless passing. These are consistently a violation of state law.  Most two lane highways in the state are marked with a solid yellow center stripe and hazard signs in no passing areas.

3 No Passing Signs  No passing signs mark the roadway.  It is your job to identify the signs and obey them.  When driving you must use extreme caution in these areas.  No passing signs eliminate poor judgment by the driver and decrease the chance of a collision.

4 Areas You May Not Pass  On a curve or hill where you can not see 500 feet.  At a highway intersection.  When meeting an on coming vehicle.  Where signs prohibit passing.  Solid yellow line on your side of the center line or double solid yellow lines.  On the shoulder of the road.

5 Important Rules For Passing  Do not exceed the speed limit.  Check roads and signals.  Use your signal when passing.  Check mirrors and blind spot.  Always use extreme caution when passing.  Make sure you have enough speed and clear the vehicle before changing lanes.

6 Before Passing Consider  Is it worth it to pass?  Is it legal to pass?  Is it safe to pass?

7 Obey The Laws Of The Road  The state of Alabama has placed road signs and lane dividers to mark an area where it is prohibited to pass. It is drivers responsibility to obey the laws and create safe roads for everyone.  Passing should be used in the right situations only! This is for your own good as well as the rest of the drivers on the road.  Think before you act and always use extreme caution.
