1. STAVE THREE  Before you Read-Independent  Skim through the chapter and list all the characters that participate in the dialogue of the Stave.  Predict the personality of these characters  Create the 3Rs chart (look at the next slide to see how)  As you Read-As a WHOLE Group  Take turns being the “teacher”  Stand in front of the group and read a page or paragraph to the group.  Each person needs to write down the words they do not know as he/she goes  After you Read  Complete the activities on the following slides

3. STAVE THREE QUESTIONS  How are Scrooge’s thoughts as he is lying in bed waiting for the spirit different than the previous chapter?  Describe the second spirit, both their looks and personality using details from the story.  How has Scrooge’s attitude toward the ghosts changed?  Name 3 significant details we learn about the Cratchit family. How does this affect Scrooge?

4. MORE STAVE THREE QUESTIONS  What would be a positive outcome of Scrooge accepting Fred’s party invitation?  What happens to Scrooge’s mood as the party continues? Why does this happen?  What does it mean that the boy and girl (Ignorance and Want) are “man’s children”?

5. AFTER YOU READ  Take the words that you have written down and complete the following tasks  Write their syllable count  List 1 antonym that goes along with each (if possible); if no antonym look up the definition in the dictionary.
